Fun

We believe that learning can and should be FUN!  Children are natural students and learn from everything they see, hear, and experience around them.  By teaching skills and goal setting strategies in a fun and upbeat manner kids of all ages become actively involved in the learning process and are more likely to stick with it over time.  One great element of our type of fun is rules...just like any game there are guidelines, goals, and responses to different outcomes.  The instructors at We Love Kempo make it a point to balance enthusiastic training with self control and discipline.  Our goal is for your child to leave class sweaty, with a huge smile, and with a can-do attitude that permeates their academic, home, and personal lives.

Effective

The Kempo system that we teach is highly effective in self defense situations.  We teach techniques and basics to students in a way that is age appropriate and applies to their specific self defense needs. Additionally, our private lesson program allows us to work closely with each child to explore the aspects of Kempo that best suit their individual needs.  If your child has a pressing need such as a bullying situation at school simply speak with one of our head instructors and we will ensure that your child's private lessons are tailored to those needs.

Discipline & Goal Setting

Martial Arts provides a fantastic foundation for discipline and goal setting.  We have noticed that children perform best in training when there are well developed guidelines for success that are clearly communicated.  With this in mind, the belt ranking system helps children recognize their achievements, strive for new goals, and develop a strategy for advancing from one rank to the next.  In addition, advancement in the Martial Arts has traditionally been a three tiered program with the student being evaluated on skill level, attitude,and  attendance.  By taking attitude and attendance into account, students are motivated to behave in a certain manner and manage their time effectively.  Even our youngest students understand the importance of keeping track of their belt and training gear to bring to class.  "Mom should not always be responsible for knowing where your belt is!"

Community

The We Love Kempo studio is made up of a positive group of families from communities such as Sabre Springs, Poway, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch, Carlsbad, and Vista.  We are a happy and outgoing group!  The studio offers a student lounge and it is not uncommon to find moms and dads deep in conversation, people reading books and magazines, kids playing the Wii, or kids doing homework.  Saturdays are a particularly fun day at the studio when a lot of us get together for impromptu picnics and hang-out time.  In short, we place huge value on the families that are a part of our team and strive to create a friendly, positive, and outgoing environment.  Both shy and outgoing kids have transitioned into our community well due to this positive attitude.

Head instructors Brian and Kristen Colwell are dedicated to helping your child achieve the best in life, from developing confidence and self control to improving grades at school and helping out with household chores.  Martial Arts is an incredible vehicle for teaching young people how to be stand-up citizens and we are personally dedicated to enhancing the wonderful community we live in.
